Blogging and Mental Health: A Personal Journey

Navigating the world of consistent blogging has been a rollercoaster of challenges, especially as I grapple with my own personal struggles. The day I missed my self-imposed deadline, I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of failure weighing on my conscience. As I embarked on this blogging journey, I quickly realized that organization would be key to forming a successful blog, as well as maintaining a consistent schedule for posts, promotions, and even managing content on multiple media platforms.

Despite my dedication to crafting my ideal blogging plan, reality hit pretty quickly; life has a way of catching even the best planner off guard from time to time. Within the first month, my stride for perfection dwindled.

Consistency has always been something that I’ve struggled with. Recently, an ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, CPTSD/PTSD diagnosis shifted my focus. I could never quite grasp why it was so difficult for me to complete projects, get through a to-do list, or consistently make it to the gym without someone to keep me accountable. I changed my interests as frequently as possible, and this often left me feeling lost and sometimes even ashamed. The constant struggle to maintain focus and adhere to a routine adds an extra layer of complexity to the blogging process, but I’ve decided that this journey, no matter how difficult, is worth the struggle.

This year, I’ve taken a bold step in managing my Bipolar Disorder through medication, aiming to navigate the intricacies of CPTSD and PTSD more effectively. Despite over two years in counseling, the decision to explore pharmaceutical intervention was met with skepticism. Fear of losing my essence and creativity to the stabilizing effects of medication lingered. While Cannabis had provided some relief for multiple symptoms over the years, the complexity of my diagnosis made me consider the pharmaceutical route further; and with the support of my counselor, friends, and family throughout my mental health journey, I felt safe exploring this option.

Entering the adjustment period of medication, I’m eager to witness the potential changes stability may bring to my overall well-being. So far, the absence of side effects is a positive sign, leaving me hopeful about following schedules and focusing on upcoming projects, including consistent content creation. Because the medication won’t magically fix all my issues and I will need to adjust to the effects of being “stable,” I’ve developed a planner to help tackle daily tasks and align my personal and professional goals.

Amidst the pressure of social media and being part of a vast niche like travel, it’s crucial to acknowledge that progress isn’t always linear. It’s important to remember that perfection isn’t real. Celebrate your achievements and recognize your progress no matter how small it may seem. Embracing new writing processes and continuous self-improvement is key. This journey will undoubtedly have its ups and downs, like any other, but reminding yourself of the importance of self-kindness is essential. Try integrating mindfulness practices into your daily routine and focus on doing tasks with intent. I also recommend writing daily affirmations to boost self-esteem and remind you that you are worthy of anything and everything you want.

For those facing similar challenges, know that you’re not alone in your struggles with mental health and creative pursuits. Embrace the journey, be kind to yourself, and remember each step forward is a triumph over your personal struggle.

As this chapter unfolds, I offer these words of encouragement to fellow travelers on this path. Find the strength within to navigate the complexities, celebrate your victories, and extend the same kindness to yourself that you would to a friend facing similar challenges. May your journey be marked by resilience, creativity, and a deep sense of self-compassion. The road ahead may have its ups and downs, but with each step, I hope you discover new facets of strength and embrace the beauty of an imperfect yet incredibly fulfilling journey.
