Echoes of Home: A Journey Back to Brazil ‘24

In 2010, my life took a significant turn when I moved back to the United States before completing the 8th grade. The decision, driven by my father’s wish for us to get an American High School education, marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in my life.

Over the past decade, living in the United States has been a tapestry of diverse experiences, both personally and professionally. From road trips, boat rides and flights abroad to working in various industries, ranging from bartending to collaborating with BMW financial services BR, and multiple jobs in between, each endeavor accompanied by the connections I have made along the way, has contributed to shaping my identity.

One standout achievement during my time in the USA was graduating with a specialization in executive Cannabis from the Cleveland School of Cannabis. This unique field of study and to many regarded as an “unconventional career path” came as a surprise to those around me, myself included. However, life often throws you into the unknown, you have a choice to adapt or cower. Not always, but usually, I choose to adapt.

Unlike my career path, retuning to Brasil although drastic, does not come as a surprise to anyone. Those who know me will attest that despite learning to love where I am regardless of geography, part of my heart is still in Brazil. I am continuously reminded that there is a part of my identity left unexplored, many for that matter. With every new connection, my heart gains more than I could ever express, but I leave a piece of myself behind.

A recent visit to family in São Paulo awoke my desire to explore the untapped richness of the city, inspiring me to immerse myself in the local culture, art, nature, and, of course, the renowned Brazilian cuisine.

As I prepare to move in 2024, I can’t help but wonder where this journey will take me, and what challenges I may experience along the way. There are concerns about cultural transitions. The acceptance of my specialized degree and the stigma surrounding the cannabis industry in Brazil are challenges I anticipate. Having been independent and private for the past decade, I recognize the shift towards a culture where people tend to care more deeply and gossip is prevalent, especially when surrounded by family. This cultural adjustment serves as a reminder of the importance of navigating societal expectations while staying true to personal and professional values.

In São Paulo, my focus will shift towards family and the cultivation of meaningful connections. I hope to fuel my passion for travel and embark on new adventures, while sharing part of my journey with you. To me this is not just a physical relocation but a symbolic return to myself, a rediscovery of aspects that may have laid dormant during the comfort of familiarity.

Comfort, while nurturing, can sometimes hinder growth. Thus, the decision to push beyond my comfort zone is an intentional step towards personal and professional expansion. São Paulo beckons as a canvas where I can paint a new chapter, blending the lessons learned in the United States with the vibrancy of Brazilian culture.

As I embark on this journey, the goal is clear – to rediscover, reconnect, and grow. São Paulo, with its dynamic energy and cultural allure, awaits as the backdrop for a renaissance of self.
